Preliminary Task

My set task was to create an intro of a given film which was leading and had the effect upon the audience of keeping them interested to watch on further (if it was a real film). I had to script the film and plan thoroughly in a short period how to have this scene work. Furthermore, I also had the pleasure of having a few more key requirements. My intro had to include a staged walking shot (A shot of a person walking), and a shot of somebody opening a door while completing the 180-degree rule, of which is remaining to film on a single side pf a person.

Analysing my short clip, right from the start we can identify that I was aiming for an intense and ‘gang’ themed with the brutality easily picked up.

At the very start we have an identified over the shoulder shot of the character (ONE) on a balcony looking down through a window toward character (TWO). Already, I managed to establish that between my two characters, character (ONE) is the dominant with evident power. * If this sense of power isn’t easily identified, it’s due to how the camera angle is looking down towards character (TWO) making them seem as if they’re submissive. While the camera is focused around character (ONE) and this gives them their power.*

With the background of my starting scene following until the character has reached the bottom of the spiral stairs and joined the other character, there is non-diegetic sound which would be described as a drone sound.

Furthermore, character (ONE) heads to walk down the stairs, her face remains hidden to emphasise the mystery of the character. As the character starts to walk down the stairs, the audience finally sees her face (recognising she’s female) but only for a second and then we only see her shoes as she walks down the final few steps. The next shot is her progressing to the door which leads outside to character (TWO) sitting at a table.

*This shot starts with the back of her and then it’s the outside of the building of her opening the door. This establishes and allows the audience to figure the new location of the following shot*

She then walks across and sits at a table with character (TWO). Character (TWO) is the first character to have dialogue and is instantly recognised as an uneasy female. For around 30 seconds, a period of shot reverse shots returning and forth between the two characters talking with character (ONE) responding with only facial expressions. This continues until silently character (ONE) stands up and walks back to the door with a second continuity edit with the character walking through the door. She then returns, sits back down in her original chair and slides a enclosed file across the desk towards character (TWO) again using a continuity edit and then at the cross over from the over the table aerial shot to the mid-shot of character (TWO) of her taking the file, leading to as if it was all one smooth clean shot.
Finally, settling back into her seat, character (ONE) has a whole lot of lines of her acting nasty and aggressive towards the other character, again asserting her dominance. She walks off and the scene ends with a shot on character (TWO) seeming almost shocked as it fades to a black out.
